Mar del Plata, Argentina: travel guide
Argentina's classic Atlantic beach resort, with seafood and summer nightlife
Argentina's most popular beach resort — Atlantic beaches, fresh seafood, a bustling casino, and lively summer nightlife.
About Mar del Plata
Mar del Plata is the country's best-known seaside resort, a long Atlantic coastline of sandy beaches, a busy port and a grand seafront. Summer sees Argentines arrive in large numbers, and the city is built around the beach: parasols, boardwalks and beach clubs line the shore.
Playa Grande is a good place to see the city's beach culture, and further along the coast there are quieter and more surf-friendly strips. The port is the place for fresh fish and seafood, and the town has a theatre and casino tradition and a lively evening scene in high season.
It suits families and beach lovers on a domestic-style holiday. January and February are peak season, while spring and early autumn are calmer.
