Quba, Azerbaijan: travel guide
Apple orchards, carpet villages and mountain scenery in northern Azerbaijan
A mountain gateway town celebrated for its apple orchards, carpet-weaving villages, and the nearby Jewish mountain village of Qırmızı Qəsəbə.
About Quba
Quba is a market town in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus in northern Azerbaijan, surrounded by orchards and with high mountains within view. It is the gateway to the upland villages of the region and has a long tradition of carpet weaving.
Across the river lies Qırmızı Qəsəbə, a hillside settlement with a Mountain Jewish heritage. Further up the valleys, Khinalig is a high mountain village, and waterfalls such as Afurja and Tengealti make good half-day outings. In winter the Shahdag resort offers skiing.
Quba suits road-trippers and mountain walkers. Summer and early autumn are the usual times to visit, with apples ripening in autumn.
