Maceió, Brazil: travel guide
Natural tidal pools and clear Alagoas waters just offshore
Natural tidal pools (piscinas naturais) glow electric blue 1 km offshore at Pajuçara. The Maragogi coast to the north features Brazil's finest coral-reef snorkelling.
About Maceió
Maceió is the capital of Alagoas, and its beaches are the main reason to stop. The city's trademark is the Piscinas Naturais de Pajuçara, natural pools formed by reefs just offshore, where small boats take visitors to swim and snorkel in clear water.
The seafront has a long promenade and plenty of beachside kiosks, and Praia do Francês, to the south, is known for its calm water and easy surf. To the north, the coast leads towards Maragogi and its coral reefs, popular for snorkelling.
Maceió suits beach holidays, couples and families who want warm water and an easy pace. The drier months, from September to March, are most reliable.
