Cali, Colombia: travel guide
Colombia's salsa capital, with hilltop views and late nights
Salsa capital of the world. Sprawling Pacific-side city with intense nightlife in Juanchito and Granada, Cristo Rey statue, Farallones Andes range.
About Cali
Cali, in the Cauca Valley close to Colombia's Pacific side, has an international reputation as the salsa capital of the world. The rhythm is part of daily life here, from dance schools to clubs that fill late into the night, and even visitors with no experience tend to try a few steps.
By day you can wander the hillside barrio of San Antonio, with its small colonial church and handicraft stalls, or climb towards the Cristo Rey statue that watches over the city. Juanchito is a long-standing centre of salsa clubs and live music. The surrounding Farallones mountains offer green countryside close to town.
Cali suits music lovers, dancers and curious travellers who enjoy local culture. The climate is warm throughout the year, so light clothing works well.
