Rhodes, Greece: travel guide
A medieval walled old town, Lindos and long Aegean beaches
Largest Dodecanese island with a medieval walled Old Town, the Acropolis of Lindos and long beaches.
About Rhodes
Rhodes is the largest island of the Dodecanese, and its main town is built around a walled medieval old town that was once the stronghold of the Knights of St John. Stone-paved lanes lead to the Palace of the Grand Master, and the walls can be walked in part.
Things to do in Rhodes include exploring the old town, visiting the acropolis at Lindos, which sits on a hill above a bay, and spending time on its long beaches on both coasts. The island also has pine-covered hills, villages and valleys to explore by car.
Rhodes suits families, history lovers and beach holidays in one. Late spring and early autumn are comfortable, while summer is hot and busy.
