Langkawi, Malaysia: travel guide

A tropical archipelago of beaches, mangroves and cable-car views

Archipelago of 99 islands off Kedah, a duty-free tropical beach getaway with cable cars, mangroves and the Sky Bridge.

About Langkawi

Langkawi is an archipelago off the coast of Kedah, in the Andaman Sea near the Thai border, made up of dozens of islands, with the main island holding most of the beaches and resorts. It is a duty-free island group, which adds to its relaxed holiday appeal.

The Panorama Langkawi Cable Car carries visitors up to the Sky Bridge, a curved walkway with wide views of the surrounding sea and forest. Elsewhere, the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is explored by boat through mangroves and limestone formations, and Eagle Square on the waterfront is a landmark near the ferry jetty.

Langkawi suits couples, families and beach-minded travellers. The drier months from about December to March are the most popular and reliable for sunshine.
