About Magong
Magong is the main town and administrative centre of the Penghu archipelago in the Taiwan Strait. The islands are low, windswept and surrounded by clear water, and Magong is the practical base for exploring them.
The archipelago is known for basalt columns, coral shallows, old stone temples and island-hopping by boat. The Tianhou Temple in Magong is an old and much-visited place of worship, and nearby beaches and sea activities make summer the busy time.
Magong suits beach-goers, watersports fans and travellers who like island trips. Summer is the high season, while the wind in winter is strong enough to limit boat trips.
