Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: travel guide
Capital of grand mosques, the Louvre and calm Corniche beaches
The UAE's capital and cultural counterweight to Dubai — a city of sweeping Corniche boulevards, world-class museums and grand mosques.
About Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and a calmer, more cultural city than its neighbour Dubai. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with its white domes and vast courtyards, is the landmark most people come to see, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island houses art beneath a lace-like dome.
The Corniche is a long waterfront with a beach and a promenade, and Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace, opens its halls to visitors. Yas Island supplies the thrills, with Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld and the Formula 1 circuit. Inland, the oasis city of Al Ain adds forts, date palms and UNESCO-listed heritage.
Abu Dhabi suits culture lovers, families and anyone wanting a more relaxed Gulf city. The cooler months, November to March, are the most comfortable time to visit.
