Tsaghkadzor, Armenia: travel guide

Armenia's ski resort on Mount Teghenis, with a medieval monastery

Armenia's main ski resort on the eastern flank of Mount Teghenis, where a chain of cableway lifts climbs to 2,819 m — the monastery of Kecharis, founded in 1033, stands in the town below.

About Tsaghkadzor

Tsaghkadzor is Armenia's main ski resort, spread across a wooded valley on the slopes of Mount Teghenis, not far north of Yerevan. Its name means valley of flowers, and in summer the hillsides turn green and the pace is relaxed.

In winter a chain of cable-car lifts takes skiers and snowboarders high up the mountain. In warmer months the ropeway carries walkers to the ridge for wide mountain views. In the town below, Kecharis Monastery, founded in the eleventh century, has carved khachkars and quiet courtyards.

Tsaghkadzor suits winter-sports travellers and weekend escapes from the capital. Skiing runs through the colder months, with summer a cool alternative.
