Corfu, Greece: travel guide
A green Ionian island with a Venetian old town and quiet coves
Lush Ionian island with a Venetian-era UNESCO Old Town, fortresses and turquoise coves.
About Corfu
Corfu is a green island in the Ionian Sea, off the north-west coast of Greece, with a history shaped by Venetian, French and British rulers. Its old town, with arcaded streets, squares and two fortresses, is one of the most elegant in the country.
Things to do in Corfu include exploring the old town, visiting the fortresses and the Liston arcade, taking boat trips to hidden coves and driving among olive groves to hill villages. The island has long sandy beaches and clear water, and its cooking reflects Italian influence.
Corfu suits families and relaxed beach stays. Late spring and early autumn offer warm weather and a calmer atmosphere than the peak of summer.
