Hyderabad, India: travel guide
Charminar, Golconda Fort and the city that perfected biryani
City of the Nizam's opulence — Charminar, Golconda Fort, fragrant biryani, and Hussain Sagar lake at the crossroads of old and new India.
About Hyderabad
Hyderabad was shaped by the Qutb Shahi dynasty and the Nizams, and its monuments still anchor the old city. Charminar, the four-minaret landmark, rises above the busy lanes of Laad Bazaar, where bangles and pearls are sold.
Golconda Fort, a ruined citadel on a granite hill, and the Qutb Shahi Tombs are worth a half day each, while Mecca Masjid and Hussain Sagar lake add the old and the modern. Food is a main reason to come, from Hyderabadi biryani to haleem and Irani chai.
It suits history buffs and food lovers. November to February is the most pleasant time to visit Hyderabad.
