Jamshedpur, India: travel guide
A planned Tata steel city of parks, lakes and the Dalma hills
India's planned steel city built by Tata Steel: Jubilee Park and zoo, lakes, temples, tribal culture and Dalma hills nearby.
About Jamshedpur
Jamshedpur is an industrial city in Jharkhand, laid out as a planned steel town by the Tata group. Wide roads, tree cover and parks give it a more orderly feel than many cities in the region.
Sights are largely green and civic. Jubilee Park is the best-known green space, with gardens, fountains and a lake, Sir Dorabji Tata Park and Bhetya Park add more open space, and the Tata Steel Zoological Park shelters local wildlife. Sakchi Market is the place for local shopping and food. Further out, the Dalma hills and several lakes offer weekend nature trips.
Jamshedpur travel suits short stays and families, usually combined with Ranchi or nearby waterfalls. The cooler months from October to March are the most comfortable time to visit.
