Bandipur, Nepal: travel guide
A hilltop Newari bazaar town with mountain views and a vast cave nearby
A beautifully preserved hilltop Newari trading town on the Kathmandu–Pokhara road, with a car-free bazaar of traditional houses, mountain views and the vast Siddha Gufa cave nearby.
About Bandipur
Bandipur is a small hilltop town on a ridge above the Marsyangdi valley, reached by a short climb from the Kathmandu to Pokhara road. Its main bazaar is a car-free street of old Newari houses with neoclassical shutters and a quiet, traditional feel.
You can walk the Bandipur Bazaar, visit the Khadga Devi and Thani Mai temples, wander out to Ramkot village and explore the large Siddha Gufa cave a short walk below the town. Clear mornings bring views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
It suits travellers on the road between Kathmandu and Pokhara, and anyone who prefers an overnight in a historic village. Spring and autumn offer the best views, with the summer monsoon bringing cloud and rain.
