Taveuni, Fiji: travel guide

Fiji's Garden Island of waterfalls, rainforest trails and reef diving

Fiji's lush "Garden Island" in the north, straddling the 180th meridian, renowned for Bouma waterfalls, the Lavena Coastal Walk, rainforest hikes and world-class diving on the Rainbow Reef.

About Taveuni

Taveuni is a long, mountainous island in northern Fiji, known as the Garden Island for its dense rainforest and rich plant life. The 180th meridian runs across it, and the pace of life is rural and unhurried.

Things to do on Taveuni include walking the Lavena Coastal Walk, swimming beneath the Bouma waterfalls and hiking through rainforest. Offshore, the Rainbow Reef and the Somosomo Strait are well known among divers, with colourful soft corals and strong currents.

Taveuni suits nature lovers, hikers and divers more than those after a resort holiday. The drier months, roughly May to October, are generally the best for walking and diving, though the island stays green and wet for much of the year.
