Ubud, Indonesia: travel guide
Bali's artistic highland village of rice terraces, temples and craft studios
Cultural Heart of Bali — an artistic village of rice terraces, temple complexes, traditional crafts, and spiritual retreats.
About Ubud
Ubud is Bali's cultural heart, a hill village of galleries, craft workshops and shaded lanes, set among rice terraces and ravines. It has long attracted painters, dancers and writers.
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, the Royal Palace, and the art market are the town's best-known stops. A short drive away, Tegallalang Rice Terraces curve down a valley, and Pura Tirta Empul is a temple with holy spring pools. Mas, nearby, is the village for wood carving.
Ubud suits slow travellers, yoga fans and art lovers who prefer a quieter base than the southern beaches. The dry season from April to October is the best time to visit Ubud.
