Mui Ne, Vietnam: travel guide

Red and white sand dunes, kitesurfing and a fishing-village coast

A 20 km beach strip famous for extraordinary red and white sand dunes, the Fairy Stream canyon and ancient Cham towers. Southeast Asia's premier kitesurfing destination with consistent winds November–April.

About Mui Ne

Mui Ne is a long strip of beach on Vietnam's south-central coast, known for its sand dunes and its steady winds. The Red Sand Dunes and the larger White Sand Dunes near Bau Trang are the main sights, best seen at sunrise or late afternoon when the light is soft and the heat is lower.

The Fairy Stream is a shallow creek that you can wade through between red cliffs, and the fishing village at the end of the bay is busy with colourful boats at dawn. The winds that blow along the coast make Mui Ne one of the country's best-known kitesurfing spots, particularly in the dry months. The Po Shanu Cham Towers are nearby.

Mui Ne suits beach holidays, watersports fans and travellers on the route between Ho Chi Minh City and Nha Trang. The best time to visit is usually November to April.
