Quy Nhon, Vietnam: travel guide

Quiet coastal city of bays, Cham towers and fresh seafood

An emerging off-the-beaten-path coastal city with pristine beaches (Ky Co, Bai Xep), ancient Cham towers and an authentic seafood market. Best Oct–Jan.

About Quy Nhon

Quy Nhon is a coastal city on Vietnam's south-central coast that sees far fewer visitors than Nha Trang or Da Nang, and it is the better for it. A long city beach curves along the bay, while coves and headlands around it hold quieter swimming spots.

Ky Co Beach and the Eo Gio cliff walk are the highlights for scenery, and the Banh It and Thap Doi towers show the Cham architecture of the region. The city's seafood is the other draw, served fresh at market and at simple eateries along the waterfront.

Quy Nhon suits travellers who want a beach without a big resort scene, and works as a stop between Hoi An and Nha Trang. The best time to visit Quy Nhon is usually from about February to August, ahead of the late-year rains.

Top places to visit in Quy Nhon

  • Ky Co Beach

Beach · 4.8 rating · about 4 h · check the fee at the gate

A hidden island beach only accessible by speedboat from Nhon Ly pier. Shallow turquoise water over white sand, surrounded by green hills — often compared to the Philippines. One of Vietnam's most beautiful beaches.

  • Quy Nhon City Beach

Beach · 4.4 rating · about 3 h · check the fee at the gate

A 4 km urban beach curving through the heart of Quy Nhon city. Unlike Vietnam's more commercialised resort beaches, this one remains largely undeveloped — clean, wide, and popular mainly with locals. Crystal clear water.

  • Eo Gio (Wind Pass) Cliff Walk

Nature · 4.7 rating · about 1.5 h · check the fee at the gate

A dramatic rocky headland 18 km north of Quy Nhon where crashing waves meet a jagged coastline and a narrow cliff path winds around the peninsula. One of Vietnam's most breathtaking coastal walks.

  • Banh It Cham Towers

Heritage · 4.5 rating · about 1.3 h · check the fee at the gate

A complex of four 11th-century Cham Hindu towers on a forested hill 20 km north of Quy Nhon. Some of the best-preserved Cham architecture in Vietnam. The silhouette of the towers against the sky at sunset is exceptional.

  • Thap Doi Cham Towers

Heritage · about 0.7 h · check the fee at the gate

Twin 12th-century Cham brick towers in central Quy Nhon.

  • Ghenh Rang - Tien Sa

Viewpoint · about 1 h · check the fee at the gate
