Jambi, Indonesia: travel guide

Riverside Sumatran city, gateway to the Muaro Jambi temple complex

Gateway to Sumatra Eco-Tourism — a riverine city known for wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, and river adventures.

About Jambi

Jambi is a city on the Batanghari River in central Sumatra, and an uncommon stop for travellers who want to see the island away from the main routes. The river runs through the city and gives it its character.

The main sight is the Muaro Jambi temple complex, a large area of brick temples set among trees by the river, which can be explored by bicycle. In town, Masjid Agung Al-Falah and Danau Sipin are pleasant places to walk, and the national parks around the province are a draw for wildlife fans.

Jambi suits history enthusiasts and nature travellers. Weather is hot and humid year-round, with the drier months from May to September usually the best.
